GetFlight launches new innovative site to book holiday destinations
TUESDAY, 6 DECEMBER - SYDNEY - WhereCanIGo.com.au is a free site created and launched today by GetFlight.com.au, which enables Australians to discover new destinations for their upcoming holidays. WhereCanIGo uses GetFlight’s real-time sale airfare data to suggest destinations that match a traveller’s desired experience, timeframe and budget.
WhereCanIGo asks visitors four simple questions:
- Where are you departing from?
- What’s your holiday style?
- What’s your travel period?
- How much do you want to spend?
Using this information, WhereCanIGo searches across GetFlight’s sale airfare inventory of more than 100 destinations across more than 40 countries, listing all of the potential destinations that match the users’ preferences.
The site is powered by GetFlight, which monitors sale fares from 10 of the leading carriers operating out of Australia. GetFlight launched in May as the only site dedicated to sale airfares in and out of Australia, with sale fares from Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Tiger Airways, Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand, V Australia, Emirates, Etihad and Malaysian Airlines.
Ian Cumming, Principal Founder of GetFlight, said: “Both GetFlight and WhereCanIGo provide Australians with a free, quick and easy way to see exactly where their money can take them. We created WhereCanIGo as a fun tool to engage consumers and provide them with a fast and simple way to discover new holiday locations. Consumers can use our site to find new destinations they might not have otherwise considered. ”
The recent Crossman Insights study revealed that 42% of Australians would be spending less than $1,000 on their holiday travel (including travel, accommodation, food and spending money), suggesting cost is a major factor in determining where Australians go on holiday. Whether looking for a beach holiday in June or a shopping excursion on a tight budget, WhereCanIGo.com.au is the perfect tool in finding new places to go on a budget.
“Through the tremendous uptake of GetFlight’s map-based interface, we found that there is a strong consumer demand for better travel search experiences. We built WhereCanIGo using the GetFlight Global Platform, which allows us to quickly build a fresh and innovative travel website that leverages GetFlight’s data to engage users at the inspiration phase of their travel planning,” Mr Cumming concluded.
GetFlight is an independent Sydney-based initiative launched in May 2011 by Ian Cumming and Don Takaya. GetFlight Pty Ltd, independently owned, is the parent company for GetFlight.com.au, GetFlight.com.sg, GetHotel.com.au, GetTour.com.au and WhereCanIGo.com.au. GetFlight launches GetFlight Singapore, wins award for best global start-up
14 November, 2011 - GetFlight.com.au, the first and only site dedicated to sale airfares for flights in and from Australia, today announced the launch of GetFlight Singapore [GetFlight.com.sg], a new sister site that utilises GetFlight’s proprietary global platform. GetFlight.com.sg is launching with six brands, including two online travel agents (OTAs) and four airlines: Jetstar, Malaysian, Singapore and Tiger Airways, to allow consumers to search and explore sale airfares from Singapore.
The launch of GetFlight Singapore is part of the company’s global strategy, to provide travellers with a simple and easy-to-use platform to discover, compare and book sale airfares. GetFlight.com.sg will direct users to the airlines’ websites for purchasing, and users can subscribe to personalised email alerts notifying them of specific sale fares for only the places they want to go. Currently GetFlight.com.sg is tracking sale airfares to over 40 cities in more than 20 countries, and GetFlight expects to add additional airlines over the coming months.
GetFlight.com.sg joins GetFlight.com.au on the GetFlight global platform, an advanced technology platform that pushes real-time airline fares across web, mobile and social channels. The platform, which deeply tracks user location, engagement and search history, can easily be configured and rolled out to other regions. Additionally, the GetFlight platform provides a branding engine that can offer partners a white label integration with their existing websites and customer base.
Ian Cumming, Principal Founder said: “We’re very excited to launch GetFlight.com.sg as the first step in our global strategy. Singapore is a major travel hub for both full service and low cost carriers with strong competition and frequent sale airfares. We plan to launch additional GetFlight international sites in the near future, in similar competitive markets where deal-savvy consumers are driven by price, and therefore sale airfares.”
GetFlight wins global travel start-up award
GetFlight was awarded the 2011 best global travel start-up company at the Web In Travel conference in Singapore last month. Mr Cumming was given the award following a competitive set of presentations, with the finalists including American-based tour and activities marketplace Flextrip.com and TourPackages.com.sg, owned by Singaporean tech company Travelogy.com. As the 2011 “Grooviest Start-Up”, GetFlight was provided significant exposure to an international audience, which included some of the region’s most well-known executives and investors.

GetFlight adds online travel agents to growing database of airfares
Company also launches new Facebook app further enhancing multi-channel strategy.
26 September - GetFlight.com.au, the first and only site dedicated to sale airfares for flights in and from Australia, is today announcing the addition of two online travel agents (OTAs) to its airfare database, allowing consumers to use GetFlight’s proprietary direct search technology to compare advertised sale air fares across ten different airlines as well as two major Australian OTAs.
The additions of Flight Centre and Jetabroad will enable Australians to access up to 2,000 sale airfares across four domestic and six international airlines and compare those prices to those currently available on the two leading OTAs. With a growing airfare database, Ian Cumming, Principal Founder of GetFlight, hopes the addition of OTAs will further cement GetFlight’s proposition as a one-stop shop for searching and booking the lowest fares for flights from Australia.
“GetFlight is making it easier for Australians to search airlines and OTAs such as Flight Centre and Jetabroad simultaneously, which we believe keeps the airlines honest about sale airfares for the benefit of the consumer. This will ensure that consumers will always be able to find the lowest price, whether that be from a domestic airline, an international carrier or an online travel agent,” said Mr Cumming.
Additionally, GetFlight has today launched a new Facebook application, which allows users to search for sale airfares directly on Facebook and recommend deals to their Facebook network. By encouraging users to comment on the deals that are most relevant to them and their desired travels, GetFlight believes that it will allow consumers to make online travel planning more social.
“Facebook is the largest social network globally and in Australia, and the GetFlight Facebook app will help increase conversions of sale fares because friends can easily coordinate spontaneous travel through Facebook. They won’t have to email travel partners with a link to a great sale airfare – they can use the app to start the conversation on Facebook,” said Mr Cumming.
“Sharing photos on Facebook is the most common way to engage friends after the travel. Sharing deals will engage and excite friends before the travel.”

11 August 2011 – GetFlight.com.au, the first and only site dedicated to sale airfares for flights in and from Australia, is today announcing two major partnerships and the launch of GetHotel and GetTour.
The new affiliate partnerships are with two leading travel & tourism brands, Booking.com and Viator, which will be leveraged through the company’s newly-launched sister sites, GetHotel.com.au and GetTour.com.au, both a part of the GetFlight umbrella.
Already offering sale airfares to over 100 leading worldwide destinations, today’s announced partnerships significantly enhance GetFlight’s current offerings and better position it as a one-stop shop for consumers who want value for a full range of travel needs.
Ian Cumming, Principal Founder, said “We’re excited this week to add new airlines and offerings so our subscribers and visitors can easily access great values for all of their upcoming travel plans. Viator and Booking.com are two of the most prominent and well-established brands in their respective industries, and it will greatly benefit our consumers to have their full range of hotels and tours offered on our site.
“We believe we will provide consumers with a compelling alternative to traditional websites for flight, hotel and tour bookings. We want to all of our sites to be user-friendly and easy to navigate, showcasing the best deals around for Australian travellers.”
The company announced earlier this week it added Emirates, Etihad and Malaysia Airlines to its sale fare database, adding hundreds of additional sale fares for the most popular destinations throughout the globe. GetFlight now offers sale airfares for 10 domestic and international carriers, while GetHotel and GetTour will offer thousands of hotels, tours and other activities in hundreds of worldwide destinations.
GetFlight.com.au, which charges no booking fees, directs users to the airline websites for purchasing, ensuring customers get the lowest fare available without having to pay a middle man. Similarly, neither GetHotel nor GetTour charge booking fees, and both sites will redirect users to the hotel offerings on Booking.com and tour offerings on Viator.com.
Viator is a global travel tour company providing access to thousands of tours, attractions and activities in over 400 destinations. Booking.com is the number one online hotel reservation service in the world, offering 155,000 hotels and attracting more than 30 million unique global visitors each month.
Ken Frohling, Vice President of Business Development for Viator, said: “We are very pleased to partner with GetFlight.com.au and its sister site GetTour.com.au to provide our destination products. Online customers today are looking for a full travel experience, and adding tours and hotel content is the perfect fit for GetFlight’s core flight business. We at Viator know that activities are an extremely relevant part of the customers’ travel experience and travelers are realising the value in researching and purchasing them in advance online on sites like GetTour.”
“In the future we plan on working closely with our partners to provide GetFlight’s innovative map-based user interface to sister sites GetHotel.com.au and GetTour.com.au. We believe there is tremendous potential with GetHotel and GetTour to show users just where they can find great deals on hotels and tours,” Mr Cumming concluded.

GetFlight adds Emirates, Etihad Airways & Malaysia Airlines
9 August 2011 – GetFlight.com.au, the first and only site dedicated to sale airfares for flights in and from Australia, has now added three premier global airlines to its sale fare database, adding hundreds of additional sale fares for the most popular worldwide destinations.
As of today, GetFlight.com.au users can search for and receive sale airfares for Emirates, Etihad Airways and Malaysia Airlines, bringing the total number of carriers offered on GetFlight to ten. The two Middle-Eastern carriers and Malaysia join Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Tiger Airways, V Australia, Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines.
These are the first additions to GetFlight’s airline inventory since launch.
Ian Cumming, Principal Founder, said “We’re excited to add new airlines so our subscribers and visitors can easily access more great values for all of their upcoming travel plans. Adding premier carriers like Etihad, Emirates and Malaysia Airlines not only increases the number of sale fares we offer and destinations available, but enhances our reputation of providing consumers with the best options to get great value.
“All three carriers have played a critical role in expanding and improving the international travel experience for Australians, enhancing the competition in global routes to Europe, Asia and the Americas. We’re in discussions with other international carriers as well, and hope to add more respected brands in the very near future.”
GetFlight.com.au, which charges no booking fees – or any other fees for that matter – directs users to the airline websites for purchasing, ensuring customers get the lowest fare available without having to pay a middle man. GetFlight is not an online travel agent and does not determine the fares; rather, it simplifies and aggregates sale airfares for value-seeking Australians looking to travel.
The site launched in late May 2011 and has over 3,400 email subscribers. GetFlight.com.au subscribers have set up more than 6,500 alerts to monitor more than 850 different routes for sale fares. The site has sent more than 64,000 sale fare alerts to its subscribers since launch.

GetFlight.com.au, the first and only site dedicated to sale airfares for Australians, announces new subscriber benefits
8 June 2011 – GetFlight.com.au, the first and only site dedicated to sale airfares for flights in and from Australia, is today announcing some additional benefits for its email subscribers that will enable it to continue offering the most personalised alerts in the industry. Email subscribers can now customise their alerts to be sent instantly (as soon as a new sale fare is published), daily or weekly at a time of their preference. Subscribers can also customise their alerts by price, airline and/or flight dates, making it the only flight website to offer Australians such a specific and personalised experience. For example, a GetFlight subscriber who is only interested in sale airfares from Sydney to Cairns in mid-September could customise an alert with that criteria – and could even optionally select which airlines they want to fly and the most they are willing to spend. Additionally, he or she could add an alert for sale fares to Los Angeles any time after December, for less than $1350, requesting to receive alerts every Friday afternoon. The additional personalisation features will enable GetFlight to continue offering Australians the simplest and most convenient route to finding or receiving the lowest fares for all of their upcoming travel. GetFlight does not require any complicated user logins and subscribers can customise their alerts directly from their emails. Ian Cumming, Principal Founder, said “Every day we receive helpful consumer feedback and suggestions to improve user experience. The additional customisation of alerts was originally a request from one of our subscribers, and we will do whatever we can to continue integrating their ideas into our proprietary platform. We want to ensure GetFlight will continue to offer an unprecedented level of personalisation in travel searching, without the fees that agents might charge. “GetFlight is a site for busy, deal-savvy Australians who want a simple search site and tailored experience. It is a service for Australians who want email alerts only for those destinations they wish to visit, for a range of different airlines, and to control the frequency of the emails they receive.” GetFlight.com.au, which launched two weeks ago, tracks sale fares for each of the four major domestic carriers, as well as some of the largest international airlines that operate in and out of Australia, and each day publishes up to 1,200 sale airfares to up to and around 100 cities in over 30 countries. It charges no booking fees – or any fees for that matter – and directs users to the airline websites for purchasing, ensuring customers get the lowest fare available without having to pay a middle man. Update on business: As of 7 June, GetFlight.com.au had over 40,000 unique visitors, gaining more than 2,900 email subscribers and sending out nearly 11,000 targeted email alerts. GetFlight has sent more than 58,000 direct search referrals to airlines for travellers to book their flights directly, proving it an effective resource for consumers and carriers alike. According to the first two weeks’ data, visitors searched across 1,187 unique flight routes. The most popular searched route is Brisbane-Melbourne (3.2% of searches) followed by Sydney-Melbourne (2.4%) and Melbourne-Sydney (2.2%). Sydney to Los Angeles (1.2%) is the most popular-searched international route, followed by Sydney-London (1.1%) and Perth-Bali (1.0%). GetFlight believes finding the right flight should be quick and easy · Email Subscription – Deal-savvy Australians can simply enter their email addresses for specific routes, and GetFlight automatically notifies them when a new deal emerges. GetFlight.com.au launches today as the first and only site dedicated to sale airfares for Australians 25 May 2011 - Now Australian travelers can search for and subscribe to direct-from-airline sale airfares on just one site. GetFlight.com.au, launching today, becomes the first and only site dedicated to sale airfares for flights in and from Australia. GetFlight.com.au tracks sale fares for each of the four major domestic carriers, as well as some of the largest international airlines that operate in and out of Australia. Each day it publishes up to 1,200 sale airfares to up to and around 100 cities in over 30 countries. Many Australians are inundated with the amount of deal emails they receive. With GetFlight, consumers can simply subscribe to the routes that interest them, and receive just one email notification if and when their destination goes on sale.” According to a recent U.S. survey from Savings.com, seven out of 10 consumers indicate they receive anywhere from one to more than 20 deal emails every day. We believe we’ve successfully created a simple, easy-to-use airfare search engine that redirects customers to the airlines’ websites, ensuring they get the cheapest sale airfare without paying any fees. We’re not an online travel agent and we’re not determining the fares – we’re simply simplifying sale airfares for value-seeking Australians looking to travel,” said Mr Cumming. “GetFlight is a site for time-poor, value-seeking Australians who want a simple search site and personalised experience.
